In 2011, 448 rhinos were poached: that's a rhino killed every 20 hours. That's also more than one a day. In 2011, two subspecies of rhino were declared extinct within 30 days of each other.
With the current rate of poaching, rhinos could be extinct in less than 10 years. Until people wake up and acknowledge the damage that is being done to these animals in their own environment instead of turning a blind eye, nothing is going to change. By visiting this page you've taken the first step to helping right a wrong that has gone on too long.
For years rhinos have been hunted and their horns (and often half their faces) hacked off ready for export to China and other Asian countries to satisfy an ancient and unfounded belief that the horn has medicinal properties able to cure anything from fever to snake bites, enhance sex drive and stop premature ejaculation.
Thousands of dollars are needed to help protect these graceful creatures from what seems like an inevitable plight.
Thus I am donning my takkies and embarking on a 10km run to help raise at least a little money to help ACT save the rhinos in South Africa. Every little counts, so whatever you can give will be gratefully received by ACT who will then disseminate it in the form of supplies, training, tracking units etc, all of which are much needed to combat the rhino poaching war.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support!
