PLEASE QUOTE "DA GAMA RACE" IN THE MESSAGE WHEN DONATING!
HELLO WORLD!
We are the Sons of Da Gama - a team of 4 adventure-hungry South Africans! (visit our FaceBook page "Sons of Da Gama")
We are embarking on a 10,000 mile journey from London to Mongolia to raise money for Rhino Conservation via Project Rhino KZN, South Africa (please visit their webiste www.projectrhinokzn.org).
The catch, you ask?
We have to do this epic journey in a tiny 1.2l car - just in case the journey in itself wasn't challenging enough...
BUT WHY?
We are travelling far from family, friends and home in the hope of raising awareness and funds for this amazing charity and to bring international attention to the rhino poaching problem in South Africa.
For a very long time, there have been gruesome, unjustified killings of Rhinos for their horns. These killings have dramatically increased in the last few years. Last year, more than one rhino was killed everyday in South Africa alone1! We need your help to prevent the total extinction of these majestic creatures. Southern Africa is home to the last remaining populations of White and Black rhino, the only two species out of the five remaining in the world that have a fighting chance of survival. Only around 4800 Black rhinos are left in the world, with one the subspecies (Western Black Rhino2) already extinct.
Project Rhino KZN was launched on World Rhino Day 2011, (22 September), this association of like-minded organisations allows for co-ordination of rhino conservation interventions aimed at eliminating rhino poaching and securing the rhino populations in KwaZuluNatal (KZN, South Africa), home to the famous Kruger National Park. They require funding to train, equip and support anti-poaching units but also to reduce poverty and unemployment in the communities surrounding nature reserves. This is extremely important to reduce the need for community members to get involved in poaching.
HELP US TODAY TO SUPPORT THIS WORTHY CAUSE - every little bit helps!
