Friends and Family—

September 24, 2023, I will be running the Berlin Marathon in Germany.

Although I gained entry to the Marathon via the lottery, meaning there is no charitable obligation, I still would like to make giving back a part of my marathon journey.

Last summer I traveled to South Africa with my close family friends the Hoffmanns, and since then they have connected me with Qhubeka.

Qhubeka is a global charity that moves people forward with bicycles in Africa. Children earn bicycles through their scholar mobility programs, improving their access to schools, clinics and jobs. A bicycle is a tool that helps people to travel faster and further, to generate income and to carry more. In the face of extreme and persistent poverty, bicycles can change lives by helping to address socioeconomic challenges at the most basic level – helping people to get where they need to go!

Qhubeka is an Nguni word that means “to progress”, “to move forward”.

To benchmark the Bicycle Cost is $320 which includes the cost of the bicycle, accessories (helmet, pump, lock, tube and basic tools and spares) and programming (logistics, beneficiary training, mechanic clinics, etc).
