My name is Lucy Gilson. I am 18 years old and am running the Two Oceans Half Marathon to raise funds for the Life Matters Foundation. The foundation provides literacy and numeracy support to foundation phase learners in underprivileged schools in the Cape Flats and surrounding areas as well as counselling and workshops on social issues and life skills for scholars.
After completing my high school years and beginning my studies at university, I have realised how privileged I am to have access to quality education as part of the youth of South Africa. I would like to support other children in the their schooling journeys through my love for running. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela
