On April 17, 2023, I will be running the 127th Boston Marathon for the New England Center for Children. My little brother, Michael, was diagnosed with autism at just 18 months old. Due to the severity of Michael’s needs, including limited social skills, non-verbal communication, and dangerous behaviors, he was unable to live at home. Michael has been a residential student at NECC since he was 4 years old. With Autism now diagnosed in 1 in 44 children each year, NECC is a unique school that advocates for kids like Michael and ensures each student has the resources, education, and safety they need. Because of NECC, Michael has developed communication skills, and now enjoys activities like swimming and watching his favorite TV shows. 26.2 miles is easy compared to the difficult daily lives of each child affected by autism, which is why I have pledged to raise $10,000 for the New England Center for Children by Marathon Monday.
