I’m so honored to be running the 128th Boston Marathon for TargetCancer Foundation! I’m running in honor of my late father in law Brian Carey who passed away from Cholangiocarcinoma (a rare cancer) almost seven years ago. During that time, TargetCancer Foundation was invaluable in helping our family navigate the complicated road of cancer and provided us with crucial answers.
TargetCancer Foundation directly supports initiatives at the forefront of cancer treatment by funding innovative research, fostering collaborations, and raising awareness among scientists, clinicians, and patients. Every dollar donated to my run will go directly to TargetCancer to aid in their courageous fight. Please check out their website and read about their “TRACK” study. https://www.targetcancerfoundation.org
Brian was the life of the party. He could entertain a room with a hilarious story, make people smile with his awesome dance moves and was the first to get on the floor to play with his grandkids. We think about him often and miss his vibrant spirit. We keep his memory alive by telling stories to our children. They love hearing them and ask about him often. He was kind, hopeful, loving and very funny. Cancer took him far too early from us. I’m raising money to give hope to families that will be affected by TargetCancer Foundation’s work.
As for the actual race, well that’s all mine. As a Boston College undergrad I remember watching the marathon and being inspired by the electricity of the day thinking someday I wonder if that could be me. A major life goal, this is the year I take on the beast that is the Boston Marathon and dedicate each mile to a loved one who has been impacted by cancer. I’m proud to be the fourth Carey member to run this race for TCF. This will be a huge feat for me but something I’m honored to do to help in the fight against cancer. Thank you so much for your support. Let’s go Team TCF!
