My Story
Hi there! My name is Chizembi and I am a 22 year-old masters student at Wits University. Despite growing up in Joburg, I spent my 5 years of high school in KZN. It was there I was introduced to the Midmar Mile. Growing up as an avid swimmer, I was aware of this far away event from a young age, but I never got the chance to swim it. Fortunately, I got the chance to swim four memorable Midmars during my time in the province.

Well, here I am approaching 10 years from my first Midmar swim and I am looking to do it again. Only this time I would like to mark the occasion by raising funds for two organisations that work in areas that are close to my heart. The first is the Centre for Environmental Rights and the second is the South African Federation for Mental Health. This GivenGain profile will be dedicated for the latter.

The SAFMH is a Johannesburg based NGO that has over 100 years of experience in advocating for the rights of people with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities. Today they are the largest mental health federation in the country. Their tireless work aims to strategically collaborate with the government and other involved stakeholders to help raise awareness and advocate for better resource distribution to aid the independent and community-based organisations that provide essential frontline services to under-resourced communities.

Please join me in offering up our support to this great organisation.
