WHY I CHOOSE TO RUN

I'm taking part in 126th Boston Marathon to raise money for Herren Project. I have worked at Herren Project for almost 10 years. I have seen first-hand the incredible work and impact we have had for over 10 years.

I have seen & felt:
- hundreds of men & women start their recovery journey and fight through it and do the work to live in long-term recovery

- families heal

 - families grieve, including losing 2 of my cousins

- communities come together to break the stigma to allow those with the disease of addiction to stand proud

- students empowered to be proud of who they are and support one another to make healthy choices and be leaders to help prevent substance misuse.

My work is my purpose and something I am proud of and believe in. Every person I have come in contact with has touched and inspired me more than I could ever say. It is for all of you I choose to run the Boston Marathon.

If you know me, you know, I do not run even a mile. I have 11 wks to train & raise $50K. It will be the hardest thing I have done. Making the choice to take the 1st step is always the hardest, but it is always worth it. I could not think of anything more powerful than running a marathon for those in recovery, those we have lost, and in the hope of inspiring just one to take the first step.
