My Story
Hi! I need your help. I'm taking part in 127th Boston Marathon to raise money for Tufts Medical Center, who do great work for a cause that's very close to my heart. If you can, please donate to my fundraising project on GivenGain!
Thank you for clicking the link and checking out this page! My name is Bobby Cole if you don't know me. I am a fire fighter and football coach from Methuen MA!
In the fall of 2020 my wife Tori and I found out we were expecting our first child, a son in July of 2021! We were over joyed as was our family. Everything with the pregnancy went great through the holidays and first part of 2021. In late March Tori began experiencing pain and some other associated problems. She ended up being rushed to Tufts Medical Center overnight at 26 Weeks pregnant because the doctors believed Tori was going to have our son that night. Tori ended up not giving birth that night but she did have a significant complication, a placenta abruption that caused her to have to stay at Tufts Medical Center for a week to be monitored in the MICU (maternal intensive care unit)
Thankfully the doctors released Tori from the hospital but informed her that this could happen again. Sure enough 4 weeks later Tori had another round of complications and she ended up giving birth to our son Robert Scott Cole on 5/5/21 at 1:18pm! Robert Scott came into this world at 30 weeks old and 3lbs 6 ounces. The fear and stress Tori and I felt was the worst we had ever felt in our life. I was not even able to hold our son because they had to rush him right down to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit)
Robert Scott would go onto to stay 2 weeks in the NICU at Tufts Medical Center before being transferred out to Lawrence General Hospital where he spent another 5 weeks.
Robert Scott is now a year and a half old and thriving. He is the joy of our lives and puts a smile on our face everyday!
Throughout the entire process of Tori being in the MICU, the birth and Robert Scott being in the NICU, the Tufts Medical was incredible. Every doctor, nurse and tech that we encountered was so compassionate, knowledgeable and comforting. They explained the whole process/situation to us every single day with no sign of annoyance to our hundreds of questions and worries. They sat and cried with us when we had to and laughed with us when I told dumb dad jokes. The NICU staff was incredible in caring for Robert Scott while he was in the incubator for the first 2 weeks of his life. This was by far the hardest thing Tori and I have ever gone through and every person at Tufts Medical Center helped us navigate this trying time and allowed us to focus on Tori and Robert Scott's health.
I am running the Boston Marathon to raise money in support of this wonderful hospital so they can continue to help people like myself in times of need. I also want to run the marathon as tribute to my wife and son battling through so many physical obstacles.
Thank you so much for any support you can provide and know that it is going to support one of the best hospitals in the world!
