My Story
Hi! I need your help. I am excited to announce that I have been accepted into the 125th Boston Marathon to raise money for Alzheimer's Association.
In 2015, my wife and I moved our family to Maine soon after finding out that my father-in-law, Joe Groff, was diagnosed with Alzheimers. A disease that had already taken his brother at a young age of 57 was quickly starting to take its toll on Joe and his immediate support system. Our 4 children (soon to be 5!) have been blessed with many hugs, stories, laughs, and ball games with their PopPop as a result of being close by. We couldn't trade that time for anything!!
This past year has been especially hard as Joe's decline was steep. The once kind, gentle, acute man that I would spend hours talking to about baseball or business was gone. I witnessed family step up in ways I never thought imaginable but at the end it was not enough. After lots of consideration, we found a wonderful long term care facility where all of his needs can be met. He is quickly adjusting to his new friends and his grandchildren visit weekly to share stories from school and the sports field. We are so thankful for the staff that is there to support him. The family dinner table has an empty seat for birthday celebrations but the conversations are filled with his grandchildren sharing their PopPop memories.
Im running Boston for Joe, our family, and all those struggling with ALZ. Please join me in the battle and help me reach my fundraising goal!!!
