I am hiking 100 km over four days in March 2023 during the Sunrise to Sunset 100km Woman’s Walk. This is my first hike. The hike takes place in the beautiful Magalies registered UNESCO Biosphere. This is a woman’s only hike and takes place annually. It is now in its sixth year and
recently expanded to Jeffreys bay.
I was not looking to do something like this until the Sunrise to Sunset post popped onto my Facebook feed. I was intrigued & did a bit of research, reached out to the organizers, and realized that this is something that I would love to do. The mission of the Magalies Biosphere is to preserve the development of its communities for the benefit of Humanity.
Why I chose CHOC:
I had first hand experience with Cancer when my 15 yr. old brother was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. This was in February 1992 & he passed away in February 1993. This was our first experience of death so close to home. My mum was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in February 1998 and passed away in February 1999.
When my brother was diagnosed, he had to receive treatment in Durban, and it was difficult for my parents to find accommodation while my brother received treatment.
CHOC provides a lot of help for both the children and families who are going through this journey and I would like to support them as they support others.
