Supporting Samaritans: Making a Difference One Donation at a Time
In 2018, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder after making the unfortunate decision to try and take my own life. For years before this I had always used running as a coping mechanism, so much so that I would go as far as to say it was the one thing I loved the most in my life. Unfortunately, at some point I fell out of love with it and began to give it up all together. Despite this, it has always been a dream of mine to run the Boston Marathon, which is why I am extremely excited to announce that this year I will be running the 128th Boston Marathon and raising money for the Samaritans! It has been a long road learning to love myself as well as running again, which is why I'm so excited to be able to share my story and raise money for a foundation dedicated to helping people just like me. My goal is to hopefully be an example for anyone who feels like they are hopeless and at the end of the line, that life does get better and that no matter how low you may be there is always a better future just waiting for you to enter it.If you would like to learn more about the Samaritans and all of the amazing things that they do for suicide prevention and awareness please visit their website samaritanshope.org.I'm extremely excited to get started on this journey and I just wanted to thank my best friend David Apgar who has been with me on this journey though it all. This one is for you.Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being a part of my life and donating to such an amazing cause!Don't forget to check in on your loved ones and take care of yourselves,Shawn
