My name is Mansour Shakarchi; I am 17 years old, and entering the last year of high school. I have always had a deep appreciation for the mountains and adrenaline based activities. I have decided to undertake a sponsored climb, where all proceeds will go to CANSEARCH, to honour my late friend, Marc-Antoine who passed away in may after relentless years of fighting cancer. My project consists of creating an Alpine route. It is divided in three parts: first comes all the preparation and planning, then the physical training; which I’ve been undergoing for the past months, and finally the climb. The day of the climb, with the help of Alpinist Stephan Siegrist (http://gigaf.org/1nxJeQV), I will make my way to “Ueschinental” in the Swiss Alps. Using already open routes, we will climb the wall, and once at the top, I will rappel down an unclimbed side, and will start bolting all the carabiners in the wall to create my route. Once all the bolts inserted, I will then lead-climb the new route by inserting the rope through all the freshly drilled carabiners. And only once all of that completed, I will then have opened a new route and therefore can name it. Considering the purpose of my climb I decided to go with MAE (Marc-Antoine Ettori) but any suggestions would be appreciate. Sur des voies existantes nous grimperons la falaise, une fois en haut nous descendrons en rappel une voie vierge. Nous commencerons alors à visser les mousquetons un à un pour reconnaître la voie. Arrivé en bas je vais remonter toute la falaise en insérant la corde dans chacun des mousquetons. Une fois achevé ce parcours j'aurais créé une nouvelle voie et j'aurais donc la possibilité de la nommer. Son nom sera la voie MAE, pour Marc-Antoine Ettori, dont j'ai voulu marquer la mémoire. Mais j'écouterais d'autres suggestions. Je vous invite donc à contribuer au projet MAE, et ainsi de supporter CANSEARCH, une organisation qui joue un rôle important dans la recherche sur le cancer des enfants à Genève depuis 2011.
