Running for Froward Point
In 1994 when two fishermen lost their lives off the Cornish coast below a recently closed Coastguard lookout, local people decided to open and restore the visual watch and NCI was born. Today there are 49 stations, manned by a team of fully trained and dedicated volunteers who keep a daylight watch up to 365 days a year.My awesome Grandpa, Alan Barrett, is part of the volunteer team at Froward Point keeping eyes and ears along the South Devon coast (as well as also offering his handyman skills at the lookout). Every aspect of NCI relies upon voluntary contribution, and Froward Point alone needs upward of £10,000 a year to stay operational which is why I am pledging to run x1 mile for every £10 i can raise towards the lookout.Note: Donations of less than £10 are of course very welcome and appreciated and will contribute towards the total amount raised and therefore miles ran. I am by no means a 'keen' runner - unless there is a slice of cake at the end of it - so this is going to be quite the challenge! If my £1,000 target is met, this equates to 100 miles in the month of September - 3.33/day, 23.32/week, so in the event of raising more than my target, miles will be rolled over in to October too. I'll be logging my miles with mapmyrun.com, and posting to the 'Updates' tab above.
