Strengthening Digital Minds
Our country needs to create jobs. We can either create more of the same jobs or Recognise that there are new job types emerging. The founding partners of GROW are WooThemes, RLabs, Silulo, Webgrowth, Get Smarter and the GivenGain Foundation South Africa. We have a common vision and objective to make a difference in our city and our nation by providing a stepping-stone for school leavers and the digitally passionate unemployed to get back into the job market. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. WordPress, Flickr, Picasa, MXit, YouTube, Vimeo… The list continues, and so do the new skills that need to be learnt to operate these new business tools as well as to apply them to companies and organisations. These skills are needed to become more effective, more efficient in connecting with other roleplayers and to learn more about the markets they serve. “What’s required is a kind of social media sherpa, who can find you the audience you seek, who can reach to them on the platforms where they are already congregating, and who can help promote in tasteful ways that fit the sensitivities of the networks where your audiences are found.” – Chris Brogan, author of “Trust Agents” GROW Academy is training skilled operators and digital artisans to fill this gap in the market. The Beautiful Gate...
On Monday 28th March, our Homies (you know who you are :-) were at our place and we read through Acts 3, the story of the Lame Beggar being healed by Peter and John just after Pentecost. A week before we, I was fortunate enough to hear RT Kendall give a sermon on that same story. Incredible. It got me thinking about that Beautiful Gate. Just as incredible is Beautiful Gate and the work that is does in looking after children in need, loving them, caring for them and arranging the process of adoption for hundreds of orphans with families they didn't have before. It is Causes like Beautiful Gate that make our world a better place, a beautiful place. My contibution today is a very small thank you for what you do in being the Gate that so many children you have looked after have walked through into a beautiful future in our world...you are my Cause of the Day 28 of 365.

Earth Hour & Beyond...
This year hundreds of millions of people turned their lights off for an hour on March 26 in the largest environmental mass participation event on the planet, run in South Africa by WWF SA. The campaign has been running since 2007 and in support of the initiative to take it beyond just the one hour, they are urging us all to take action in any way we can to look after the environment. I am taking a week's worth of electricity and make it my contribution to the campaign. My SA Cause of the Day, 26 of 365...

Build the Future...
There is no better heading for this project than the name of the Cause of Today, itself...Build the Future is the brainchild of Philip Shapiro, a honourable, inspiring guy I met over the past few days. He has humbly led this organisation on a range of projects in a number of South Africa's currently disadvantaged areas where the ravages of poverty have moved him to take action. His work has involved handling the opertions of a number of projects of various kinds usually in association with foreign donors visiting South Africa, looking for ways to give back. It is people like Phillip that make these contributions make a difference in the lives of South Africans in need. He is a true Activist and his Cause is no. 24 of 365.
