Urgent COVID-19 funding to support our healthcare workers

Westlake United Church Trust (WUCT) is a registered NPO (PBO certified) since 2002. We are a Community Based Organization situated in Westlake Village, Cape Town.

What we do

We run various activities including a HOME/COMMUNITY BASED CARE PROGRAM, in partnership with Department of Health (DoH).

We provide a FREE service caring for sick people in their homes in Westlake and surrounding areas. Given our track record, and as per DoH request, we’ve recently taken over management of a further vast area covering Strandfontein, Grassy Park, Retreat, Lavender Hill, Pelican Park, Parkwood Estate, Jim se Bos (Phillippi), Phumlani, Skaapkraal, Egoli, Sewende Laan, Lotus River, Ottery and Wynberg.

Altogether we employ 10 Professional Nurses and 133 Community Healthcare Workers in Westlake and the above areas. At present, they attend to over 1500 patients per month in their homes. They carry out between 10 000 and 20 000 visits per month.

Our current & critical needs

We are desperately in need of funds due to the present coronavirus crisis as DoH has requested us to dispense chronic medication to all the clients who regularly collect their medication from the various health facilities. This has placed an extra burden on our staff, as well as compromised their safety during the crisis because they are now walking around additional areas and entering homes of an even greater number of vulnerable people.

We would like to urgently request funds for masks, hand sanitizers, bleach, soap, toiletries and personal protective equipment.

We would also like to distribute food parcels to the needy families during this crisis, and therefore require additional funding in order to buy non-perishable food.
