Hlokomela (Hoedspruit Training Trust) is a small, not-for-profit, HIV&Aids healthcare organisation in the Mopani District of Limpopo, South Africa, that has mobilised to help fight the spread of the Corona Virus in the Greater Kruger to Canyons Biosphere area. This area is home to many rural communities already fighting a wide range of immune deficiencies, like HIV, TB & diabetes.
This Hlokomela Herb Garden initiative was born in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, an adaptation of our business operation for positive change within our greater community. We commit to actively promote local food security enterprises, stimulate dynamic local economic activity, inspire a holistic, lifestyles approach to community & personal wellness and advocate a progressive welfare programme for our key population groups. All sourcing is respectful, safe, ethical, inclusive and sustainable. We abide by a strict code of ethics that embodies the spirit of Ubuntu, care for others and respect for all life.
The funds raised thus far for the Hlokomela Herb Garden Community Wellness Mission can be credited to the incredibly passionate and dedicated team at Tshembo Africa Foundation. Their inspiring and challenging campaign, #walking4hope has brought a mix of caring people from all across the globe. A special thanks to the man who started it all, Bruce Lawson, who has committed 1000km in 20 days to the cause. We salute you and thank you for bringing awareness and support to our communities.
Appreciating our role as a community based, not-for-profit organisation, we feel it is now time to reorganise our operations within the Herb Garden to better serve our greater community; promoting natural farming practices, local economic activity and personal/community wellness.
Our initial action will be to provide the vulnerable, key members of our community with whole-foods-based (fresh herbs, vegetables & fruits, and some grains) & essential product (toiletries, household goods) baskets.
