The Big Food Drive Community Gardens

The Big Food Drive Community Gardens project is a collaboration between Jeremy Loops, Greenpop and Urban Harvest.

With over 55% of South Africans already living below the poverty-line, the national lockdown intensified the economic crisis, driving millions of people into desperation. In March 2020, South African Musician Jeremy Loops (who also co-founded Greenpop) established The Big Food Drive, as an immediate response to Covid-19 lockdown food security threats.

To start, the food distribution network was set up to deliver fresh food to communities in need during the South African lockdown which left hundreds of thousands of people hungry.

Moving forward, The Big Food Drive Community Gardens project aims to empower communities through growing their own food - bringing much needed nutrition to many mouths, providing a sustainable food source and uplifting people through skills development.

Let’s start growing and sharing in knowledge and community.
