The Phoenix Open Water Swimming Club was established in October 2009 to continue the work and the legacy of the late William Eric Harley who dedicated his life to ‘Learn to Swim’ and water safety.
Currently the swim club does not only put focus on educating learners and the public about open water safety but ensures:
- Good mentoring and development of members
- Motivates members to achieve higher academic and sports achievements
- Positive sport development within the community
- Enable swimmers to achieve big goals such as completing the annual freedom swim in Cape Town.
The club is based in Belleville and caters for not only young children but also adults. They live by Mr Harley’s motto “learn to swim, save a life!” and you will always find phoenix swim club members participating most open water events in the Western Cape.
The Phoenix Open Water Swimming Club are truly making a difference and it’s fantastic to see their club and swimmers grow from strength to strength.
