Sunfield Home Wellington (“Sunfield”) is a “Non-Profit Company” registered in terms of the Company’s Act, and operated in accordance with the rules and regulations as laid down by the Department of Social Services.
Sunfield is a protected workshop and care centre for intellectually disabled adults and renders social services within a widely spread geographical area of the Western Cape.
Our residents are intellectually disabled individuals who are unable to function without guidance and protection. This diminished intellectual ability can be congenital, genetic, caused by injury at birth, motor vehicle accident, sickness or environmental deficiencies. Examples are Down Syndrome, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and oxygen deprivation at birth.
Today we provide a loving and nurturing environment for 91 residents and 13 day-care individuals of 18 to well over 70 years of age.
During the day we accommodate our residents and day care persons in our protective workshop. Here we do contract work, as well as arts and crafts and other activities.
Contract work plays an important role as it not only keeps our residents busy, but also enables them to earn money at the end of each week for work done.
Sunfield is dependent on three financial sources, namely the
monthly tariff payable by residents, subsidies as well as income from fund raising, donations and contracts.
All donations are utilized for Sunfield’s essential needs in view of the fact that the monthly income from tariffs and subsidies is not sufficient to operate the institution on a sustainable basis.
Because Sunfield is registered with SARS as an Article 18A institution, we are able to issue tax certificates which will enable donators to reclaim costs from their tax.
