Families impacted by permanent physical and intellectual disabilities, or autism, have higher than average daily living costs, they are also a particularly vulnerable sector during the COVID-19 pandemics. These families need to take isolation to the greatest possible degree to keep their family members safe, and often feel isolated and afraid. Many are also struggling financially with the added burden of having reduce salaries or no salary at all. During this time we want to take some of the pressure off of these families. We have already distributed 100 food hampers, but we have waiting lists of families in need. We also offer counselling support to Parents of children with disabilities to help them cope with the emotional stress they are under. Each food hamper costs us R330 and is delivered directly to the families homes. Counselling is done telephonically.
