About Surgeons for Little Lives…
Surgeons for Little Lives was launched in 2015 by a group of paediatric surgeons and motivated individuals with the vision to improve the care and support given to children requiring life changing surgery and their families’ at Chris Hani Baragwanath and Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospitals in Gauteng, South Africa. Through the implementation of our vision we have found the need to add 3 further pillars to our operations. These are the provision of on-going staff training, conducting evidence based research to steer, support and measure our projects and efficient, effective and transparent administration.
It is well established internationally that leading paediatric hospitals are significantly funded through aligned charitable organisations, and as a registered Non-Profit Company and Public Benefit Organisation, this is exactly what SFLL’s is doing in South Africa.
Lead by paediatric surgeons Jerome Loveland, Ellen Mapunda, Chris Westgarth-Taylor and Andrew Grieve, the charity has raised in excess of R 45 million since our launch. These funds have been channeled into our numerous projects to supplement the care provided by the state health care sector.
