Grant “Polly” Pollock a member of the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, the Mother Club to the Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club (SCARC), has thrown down the gauntlet and will be participating in a 244km Challenge to raise funds for getting 8 x SCARC Senior members their drivers’ licences. And once this target is reached there are a number of other causes that we will ring-fence funds for to support our members as they take on the working world.
The 244km Fundraising Drive:

Frequently referred to simply as DW, the race starts in Devizes, Wiltshire, and follows the Kennet & Avon Canal to join the Thames at Reading. The finish is in the heart of London at Westminster Bridge opposite the Houses of Parliament. Along the course of the race there 77 locks and weirs that need to be negotiated and portaged. The Everest of canoeing.
