Support TEAM SAMARITANS at the 2022 Boston Marathon!

Every 12 hours, someone in Massachusetts dies by suicide.

Suicide often leaves family and loved ones in shock, wondering “Why?” Too many families have suffered this painful loss, but there is hope. You can help save lives by supporting Samaritans’ mission of suicide prevention by joining our Boston Marathon® Team.

Samaritans work is important now more than ever.

Trained volunteers listen day and night, offering support to people who are struggling or feeling suicidal on our 24/7 Helpline. During the pandemic, our incredible Helpline volunteers have worked remotely to answer the calls and texts from people who need our support.

Our SafePlace meetings and Survivor to Survivor Visits help those who have lost a loved one to suicide deal with the unique grief of a suicide loss. Currently, in an effort to practice social distancing, our team is hosting SafePlace peer support groups virtually, three times a week. SafePlace is open to suicide loss survivors, and the groups are facilitated by trained volunteers who have also lost a loved one to suicide.

Samaritans’ free suicide prevention workshops teach teens and adults how to recognize that someone might be suicidal and how to help themselves, a friend, classmate, or co-worker. Currently, in an effort to practice social distancing, our team is delivering suicide prevention webinars via Zoom. Webinars are offered weekly to the public and private workshops can be scheduled for schools, businesses, and any community groups.

Thanks to the John Hancock Non-Profit Marathon Program and our amazing dedicated runners, this is the 15th consecutive year that Samaritans has a Boston Marathon® Team. All funds raised by our runners will benefit Samaritans' suicide prevention services.
