Established 21 years ago, Rainbow Educare Centre is the home-from-home for 163 children living in Site B, Khayelitsha. A quarter of the parents at the school are unable to pay fees at all, and the balance pay a modest amount. The centre is supported by Ikamva Labantu, a local non-profit organsation and the staff are trained in early childhood development. As a result of the poor state of their infrastructure (the kitchen in particular) their grant from the Department of Social Development has been conditionally withdrawn. This means that the centre will not receive a vital daily subsidy that provides food for the children until they have improved their facilities.
With your help, Breadline Africa will be able to provide a converted shipping container kitchen - offering a hygienic and structurally sound place to prepare the nutritious meals that the children need to build body and mind.
The 163 children and their teachers are eagerly awaiting their new kitchen - please help Breadline Africa to make it a reality!
