#NoKidGoesHungry

Kids Haven protects and cares for children.  We do this in the communities in and around our children's home in Benoni.  We help families and communities to protect and care for their children so that all children can be safer and every adult can take responsibility to care for children.

During the pandemic of 2020 and now continuing into 2021, Kids Haven provides food parcels and vouchers for supermarkets to families and youth living independently so that they have enough to eat.  At the same time, we are encouraging and supporting vegetable gardening so that these families and young people can be more food secure.  Jobs remain scarce and many families face real hunger.  Children sometimes only have one meal a day, and the adults may go hungry.  Families are trying to buy the cheapest food that they can and make it stretch as far as possible so that it lasts the whole month.

Kids Haven works directly with families AND collectively with small organizations in the heart of these communities to distribute substantial food parcels to the households who need help.  We check in on our past children and youth who used to live in our Children's Home to make sure that they are OK and have enough to eat.

For now, we need YOUR help to provide 100 food parcels per month to families and young people cut off from any other form of income.  Your donation puts food on the table and makes sure that No Kid Goes Hungry.

It costs between R590 and R 700 to provide a food parcel containing bulk products prioritized by families that will last a month.  Items like 10kg rice, 12.5kg maize meal, 10kg flour, 1kg salt, 24 stock cubes, 4 x boxes of soya, soap and toothpaste.
