Strong Schools is mobilizing communities to provide masks for learners during this covid-19 pandemic.
Whether schools will re-open soon, in phases, or only later in the year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) advises people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the covid-19 virus. Masks help to prevent the virus from spreading from person to person through coughing or sneezing.
We are assisting 9 primary schools and 5 high schools in the Helderberg to provide enough masks for all their learners and staff. Two masks per learner allows for alternating between wearing and washing. Through this project, we have helped the local communities to take ownership of their schools by providing material for ladies from Strand, Temperance Town, Sir Lowry's Pass, Nomzamo and Lwandle so far, to sew from their homes - this is also an income generating opportunity for these ladies during this lockdown.
If you are willing to sew from home and donate your masks to one of the schools, please let us know!
We have raised enough masks for the matrics of 5 high schools and the grade 7's of 9 primary schools - a total of 1980 masks have been completed. We still need masks and/or money for the other grades - around 13000 learners.
1) DONATE any amount of money. If you want to donate bigger amounts, we can also issue a tax rebate certificate - please contact us for banking details (firstname.lastname@example.org).
2) MAKE masks. If you and your friends want to sew a number of masks, please contact us! If more people make masks for the children, we have to raise less funds.
3) DONATE/GIVE materials. Please contact us to arrange for collection.
Thank you for collaborating with us!
