Iris House was founded in June 2011, assisting 12 life-limited and life-threatened special needs children and their families in the Northern Suburbs with FREE community-based respite care.
As of July 2022, we now provide our FREE services to over 630 children and their families.
Our FREE services now also include:
Community-based respite care
Hospice-based respite care
Equine Therapy
Free transportation to and from the hospice
OT services
Social Work services
GBVF training for SAPS, First responders, and Prosecutors
Training for parents
Training for safety and foster parents
Sensory room sessions
Sensory Garden sessions
Family events.
We are now also providing our free respite care service to 62 communities in the Western Cape.
We have started the Keep Iris House Moving campaign to assist us in bridging the ever-widening gap between our DSD funding and what it is actually costing us to provide these essential services to special needs children and their families, your contribution will make a direct impact on the amount of special needs children and families we can assist. We know we have only touched the tip of the iceberg.
It takes a village to raise a child, it takes a province to raise a special needs child!
