Home is where the hound is!

The community members from Struisbaai have invited us back to their beautiful town to work in partnership with “Luv 4 Pets” with the goal in educating the public on the importance of keeping your pets safe, secure, and healthy.

There are communities in the surrounding area where dogs have no shelter. The dogs simply sleep outside with no warmth in winter months and no cover from the harsh sun during summer.  They are often chained.

Our goal is to have an educational fun day where people will be invited to come around and build their very own kennel for less than the costs of the material involved. We have drawn up the best possible blueprint to suit this specific event in teaching people on how to work with basic tools, and a step-by-step guide on constructing the shelters.

Children of the families involved will get an opportunity to decorate and paint the kennels. Delivery will also be arranged for the participants if they are not in possession of a vehicle.

We would like local businesses to get involved as well as possibly donate any services that could contribute to this cause. The event will be focused on the poorer communities that can’t afford shelters for their animals.

We have set up a supply list of what will need to complete the project:

Supplies:

18mm shutter ply / Exterior plywood boards (same or bigger than 844mm x 764mm)
114x38 pine planks
4mm drill bits (steel or wood)
Screws – 6x40, preferably Square
#2 square bits for all participants
Wood glue
Waterproofing for the roof
38x38mm pine
Ventilation grids (small)
Paint, exterior varnish, thinners, drop sheets, wax’all, and decorations.
Bit extensions
Jigsaw blades
Working gloves
Rubber gloves for painting

Tools:

Battery operated hand drills, and chargers (the more we have, the more people can build at the same time)
Paint brushes
1 x Jigsaw (that will only be operated by an authorised person)
Projector (for educational purposes)
A PA system to instruct people on what to do.

The kennels have been designed to accommodate most dogs. The design allows safe and simple assembly so that everyone is able to participate, and will also be transported and cut with less effort. The timber used to construct these kennel are sustainable and insulating.

Ways you can help:

Volunteer your services: We would love the event to be welcoming to the public, and there is no better way of admiring your hard work than with a good boerie roll and an ice cold cream soda. We are looking for any help with marketing, transport, food, music, entertainment such as a jumping castle to keep the kids entertained while the parents assemble. Photography services and even volunteers to help deliver. Basically anything that will make this day a great one.
Fund a kennel : Any financial contribution will be highly appreciated as well go towards the project. Our main priority is to have all the supplies two weeks before the event as all the panels need to be pre-cut. Funds can be donated using the donate link below, or by using the banking details listed on our website: www.numex.co.za

Donate tools or supplies: The supplies and materials used in this project will determine how many kennels we can construct, and how many furry friends will sleep under a roof that evening. The larger items will have to be pre-cut and delivered to Struisbaai. Even off-cuts bigger than 900 x 750 will be useful.

This event will be held in May 2019.

We thank you for taking interest in this project, and helping us help others. Any contributions are highly appreciated and will be acknowledged.
