Hiking the Amatola Trail for Ikhaya Lethemba!

I would like to say thank you to everyone for following and supporting my fundraising project for iKhaya le Themba in Hout Bay's Imizama Yethu. After completing the 107+ km, 6 day Amatola hike, I was keen to do a show-and-tell for the children at iKhaya. So on 27 May I was invited to join the Friday celebrations with my report back on the Hike. I arrived at iKhaya with my rucksack packed with just about everything I took on the Amatola, except food. We had great fun deciding what was in my backpack. The kids were pretty spot on with their suggestions of what I would have taken, even down to a first aid kit. The best, and most priceless, moment was when I showed them my waterproof pants, now very muddy, with all THEIR names written on them. As I spoke about the muddy conditions and hail and mist, their faces lit up as one by one they started seeing their names! Very precious indeed! It reminded me of the feeling I had when walking through the indigenous forests, up the steep inclines, and along the skyline contour paths, while lifting each child up in prayer. How special it was to tell the children that so many people love them. Every volunteer and donor has the same love for these children, and the work at iKhaya, to give them the best start in life, and to help them get the most out of their primary school education. I left them with 5 yellow paper footprints, reminding them that we didn't get lost on the Amatola because we followed the yellow footprints every step of the way. For the iKahaya kids this means listening to God, and staying close to him through prayer and daily Bible readings. Thanks once again for your generous donations, and to those who have decided to enter the sponsorship programme. It is very much appreciated! - Arja de Korte
