It is estimated that there are more than 6 million people in Viet Nam, or nearly 8% of the total population living with disabilities, due to congenital causes, accidents or the consequences of war. It is estimated that there are about 4.8 million Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange / dioxin. Vietnam is also one of the countries most severely affected by landmine / UXO accidents. Approximately 800,000 tons of bombs left over after the war, the total area of pollution and suspected pollution of more than 6.1 million hectares, accounting for more than 18% of the total area of the country. Millions of people and their children and grandchildren live in poverty, poverty and disadvantage, but are constantly striving to rise.
With a humanitarian desire to raise awareness and empathy for the PWD, the victims of Agent Orange (AOS) and the victims of landmine / UXO war On their own and their own difficulties, to help them rise and socialize, the Ho Chi Minh City Peace and Development Fund implements the Orange Initiative (OI).
Starting in 2017, the Orange Initiative has implemented specific activities such as organizing a PWD / AOS group to participate in the HCMC Cross-Country Run; sponsored PWD / AOS capacity building projects such as Handicraft Workshop for Orphans and Orphans at Hoc Mon, PWD / AOS Literacy Classroom in Cu Chi; offering scholarships, bicycles, special assistance and home repair assistance for victims of Agent Orange.
In 2018, the Orange Initiative will continue to implement the Prosthodontics Project for Disabled Persons, the Swim Team for Physical Fitness for Persons with Disabilities, and the Compassion Support Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities. a child of a disabled person completes a degree.
To reach the beneficiaries, OI cooperated with partner organizations such as Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Handicapped and orphans, Association of Victims of Agent Orange / dioxin in Cu Chi District, Development and Disaster Preparedness (DRD) and Ho Chi Minh City Mitigation Facility.
As a non-profit, the Ho Chi Minh City Peace and Development Foundation (HPDF) raised funds for the Orange Initiative's activities and projects in particular and the Foundation's activities in general. Therefore, HPDF welcomes all forms of support and funding from Vietnamese and international friends (individuals, organizations and businesses) for the benefit of People With Disabilities / Agent Orange victims (PWD / AOS) victims of landmine / UXO in Vietnam.
