Sarah (not her real name for protection reasons) is a twelve-year-old girl with a very difficult past and a bright future. She has been in more than one foster home and has faced numerous traumas in her first eleven years.
She is now in a family with four siblings where her new foster parents are thrilled that they will be able to adopt her in 2022. Sarah loves people. She seeks out their company and loves to chat about everything that is happening in her world. If she could be a mermaid it would be her chosen life path as she loves water and spends hours in the swimming pool. She also loves to dance and as she journeys towards her teenage years, music is becoming more and more important.
Due to her hard start, Sarah has a great capacity for understanding others who have experienced trauma and other children from hard places. She loves to be helpful and needed and has a definite heart for those who are struggling.
She is growing and learning so much about how to manage big feelings and will use painting, swinging, or jumping on the trampoline to cope when she struggles. She talks about what it will be like to be an adult and is thinking about becoming a social worker one day if becoming a mermaid is no longer an option!
