Youth In Transformation exists to help children and youth access the resources they need to succeed in their education and go on to realize a better future.
At the beginning of the year we launched our Pilot Tutoring Project at Thandokhulu High School. We were able to employ five tutors who worked with a group of 15 learners, and the results were very encouraging.
All the students in the program had an increase in their mathematics marks by the end of the second quarter compared to their grade 8 final mark.
One learner saw an increase of 34% going from a 51% in grade 8 to 85% at the end of term 2 in grade 9. Another went from 49% to 71%.
The group average increased by 16%
We have some big goals for 2022 as we aim to ramp up the project. We have seen such an improvement in this group of Grade 9 learners that we decided to continue tutoring them next year in Grade 10. We will also add a new group of grade 9 learners in 2022. In addition we will be launching a robotics program in a school in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch with a group of Grade 7 learners.
These programs now form part of our newly formed Project called STEAM+. Through STEAM+ our goal is to help young people succeed in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. What’s the + you say? Thank you for asking. Our passion is to not just help young people succeed in school, but also to succeed in life. So all of our STEAM programs will be supported by an intentional life coaching and mentoring program that will help young people become confident, generous, kind and loving members of our global society. We need young people who don’t just get good Maths marks, but who use their education to build a more inclusive and sustainable world.
Help us continue and grow the impact we are having on the young people of South Africa. With every R200 donated 3 learners receive an hour of tutoring and mentoring support. Play your part in impacting the next generation and donate today!!!
