Giving Tuesday 1 December 2020

Give back to the Earth, give back to the future

We find ourselves living in harsh and trying times, felt more by some than by others, but for the first time in a long time, we are all fighting on the same side, and as long as we remember that, there isn’t much we can’t do. All over the world, people have rallied and fought hard to curb the spread of COVID-19, and the spread of the destruction that it leaves in its wake. We have all suffered loss as a result of the pandemic, the loss of loved ones, the loss of income and livelihoods, the loss of simple pleasures we once took for granted, and the loss of carefree everyday living, and much, much more. Yet in the face of all of this loss, we have witnessed incredible acts of human kindness to both people and animals, and we have all seen the tremendous strength of South Africa and the world.

1 December 2020 is GivingTuesday, an opportunity for people around the world to once again stand together in unity – to use their individual power of generosity to remain connected and heal. During these unprecedented times, when we are all experiencing the pandemic and its far-reaching consequences, generosity, empathy, and solidarity are what bring us solace and hope, and allow us to stay connected, even when we are physically far apart.

We at the EWT have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by our supporters over the last few months – not only towards us but to so many others in dire need of help. If you are able to and want to be a Conservation Champion, keep an eye out next week for ideas on how you can contribute to a more sustainable and healthier future for all, or contact Tammy Baker at
