Founded nearly 30 years ago in 1986, MES' (meaning 'Metro Evangelical Services') story started in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, as a evangelism movement wanting to help the growing poor and destitute communities in inner city Johannesburg, South Africa.
Inner city areas like Hillbrow in Johannesburg once flourished with businesses, affluent communities and nightlife. However, sadly like so many inner city areas in South Africa, Hillbrow changed as a result of socio-economic changes in the country and rapidly changed into a poor and destitute inner city area filled with crime and social problems.
MES (which stands for 'Mould Empower Serve') has been working in Johannesburg for nearly 30 years (next year) and continues to help those who need help. MES has also expanded into Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Kempton Park in recent years.
MES has over 250 full-time staff working across a number of different projects, campaigns and services.
