250,000 children are reported missing in the EU every year. Among this vulnerable group of missing children over 50% of missing children are children running away from situations of conflict, abuse or neglect at home or the care institutions they are placed in. 29% are children abducted by a parent or guardian. And 2% of missing children cases reported are of unaccompanied migrant children crossing into European borders to escape poverty, violence and abuse. While the figure of unaccompanied children reported is low, we know of thousands of these vulnerable children who go missing once in Europe.

Missing Children Europe’s vision is that all children should be able to rely on an effective and holistic systems of child protection, where all measures are taken to empower and protect them from any situation of harm.

Our projects are focused on improving services available to missing children, raising awareness of the issue of missing children, facilitating effective, cross-border efforts and promoting reliable research that could in turn affect policies and laws related to missing and sexually exploited children. To meet our funding goals, we organise several annual fundraising events open to the general public:

  1. Running for Missing Children Europe: Each year Missing Children Europe recruits a team of individuals and organisation participants who run at the Brussels marathon and the Antwerp marathon to raise funds for Missing Children Europe projects to protect and support missing children. The next Antwerp marathon takes place on 17th of April and the next Brussels marathon will be held in October 2016. We hope to bring together over 500 runners. Register now!
  2. The Golfing for Missing Children Europe annual fundraising event has taken place for 11 successive years and has brought together over 1,100 golfers in some of the most prestigious golf courses in Belgium. This year's event will take place at the Royal Golf club of Belgium on the 27th of May. So enjoy a game of golf and help us protect missing children. Register here.
  3. Playing Bridge for Missing Children Europe: Whether you're a Bridge pro or not, this fundraising event offers a great opportunity to play Bridge in the lovely premises of Château Fond'Roy. Last year 140 players participated at the event. Don't miss this year's event taking place in November. Register here.

If running, golfing or playing Bridge is your thing, then do join us this year! But if you'd like to cycle across countries, have a gala dinner or swim the English canal for missing children, then that's great too and we'd really appreciate your support. You'll find more information on Missing Children Europe and our fundraising events on our website. If you already have a great idea and want to get started on your own fundraising event to support missing children in Europe, get in touch via email on supporting.committee@missingchildreneurope.eu

In 2015 missing children hotlines received 209,841 calls. Lack of funding to hotlines for missing children in Europe that were halved from the previous year meant that 39% of calls could not be answered. Your participation and support help us provide all children with the love and security they deserve. A huge thank you from Missing Children Europe and these children.
