In South Africa, one third of all food produced is dumped in landfill, while more than 14 million people go hungry every day.
At FoodForward SA, our vision is a South Africa without hunger.
We are the largest food redistribution organisation in South Africa. Since 2009 we have been working to achieve this vision through our foodbanking model, safely and cost-effectively recovering quality edible surplus food from the consumer goods supply chain and making it available to community organisations that serve the poor.
We distribute quality surplus food to registered NPOs that provide at least four meals per week. These NPO’s register as FoodForward SA beneficiary organisations and pay a nominal membership fee. They receive a monthly nutritious food basket, which is allocated according to the number of people served.
More than 75% of our BOS are ECD centres; homes for disabled persons, orphans and vulnerable children; centres that care for youth, women and the disabled; after-school projects; and old aged homes.
In the 2018/2019 financial year it only cost us R0,90 to redistribute each 250g portion of quality food to our beneficiary organisations.
That means that for just R50 you can help make sure someone gets two meals a day for a month!
We rely on the partnership of our corporate and individual donors to continue implementing our surplus food strategies that serve the poor. With your help, we can end hunger, improve the lives of others, and bring about sustainable social change!
