Mothers That Care is a group of mainly Mothers that started in January 2010 .
At first they identified a need at Buren High School, in Brooklyn. Many of the children were coming to school not having had anything to eat the night before or that morning.
Needless to say this was having a negative impact on the children’s ability to concentrate and learn. We started off in a small way by making sandwiches every Wednesday and delivering these to the school. It was very rewarding to see the positive impact this gesture had on these young children.
The group of Mothers soon expanded and at this stage we are making more than now cater for 3000 kids per week, collectively among our 10 groups. These sandwiches are delivered to the following schools: Buren High, Ysterplaat Primary, De Grendel School, Holy Cross Convent, Bloubergridge Primary, Blouberg High, Table View Primary, West Riding Primary and ACVV Creche in Melkbos and Brooklyn, Marconi Beam Primary, Sophakama Primary, Dunoon Primary, Silver Leaf Primary and various creche’s in Dunoon.
WE recently identified the following creche that we help as much as we can.
On the outskirts of the industrial area of Atlantis we find the settlement of Witsands. This settlement according to 2011 census houses an estimated 4,689people (7,528.26 per km²) . This figure has more than tripled in 8 years. In this area poverty is a rife reality. People really live on the bare minimum, as is the reality in large areas of Africa. As throughout the world.
On Monday Mother's That Care visited the Nobunto Creche with donations of toys. Every morning 70 kids ranging between the ages of 1 and 7 years are dropped off by their parents. Under the supervision of 5 beautiful caring ladies they spend the day in a with the bare minimum of facilities. They spend the day in two prefab buildings, just bigger than a decent sized caravan. The absence of chairs, tables and colourful pictures is something that cannot go unseen. The surrounding enclosed area has no swings, no jungle gyms, no grass. All just barren land. Innocent kids deserving of a school where they can play, where they can run around and learn outdoor activities.
This creche was informed this week by the owner of their one container that he will be removing it next week.
Regardless of the generosity we have received from our ladies in providing nutritional ingredients to make these sandwiches, the demand is ever growing and we need additional funds/and or items to
