A decade ago, emergency medicine did not exist in the African continent. Due to dedicated physicians such as Dr. Upendo George, the future of emergency medicine is growing and improving. The issue that lies ahead now is creating opportunities for more young adults to pursue careers in the field of emergency medicine, but many of them struggle from finding opportunities of funding. The Dr. Love Scholarship, named in honor of the life of Dr. George, whose name means “love” in her native language, aims to alleviate that stress by providing 10 students with a $22,000 tuition scholarship to fund their nursing school expenses. By donating to the Dr. Love Scholarship fundraiser, the future of emergency medicine will continue to thrive and provide access to driven students that, like Dr. Upendo George, want to see a safer and healthier Africa.
