The fire that swept through the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement from the 10th to the 12th of March 2017 has left more than 15,000 people homeless.
Unfortunately, many of the community’s family pets have also been displaced and injured and are extremely stressed. The additional intake of animals is stretching our resources to breaking point. DARG is currently operating over capacity following the rescue of more than 100 additional animals (dogs, cats, kittens and puppies). These animals need to be housed, cared for and in many cases helped to readjust by our resident animal behaviourist.
Prior to the fire, we were at bursting point from an accommodation perspective, and as a result, we simply do not have enough kennels, catteries and cages to house these additional pets whilst their owners rebuild their homes and their lives.
We desperately need to purchase building materials to extend our kennels and catteries. DARG has the ground but not the materials. Additional kennels and two super-sized catteries would be optimum.
CAN YOU BECOME AN AGENT FOR CHANGE AND HELP US ADDRESS THIS CATASTROPHE?
ALL donations would be greatly appreciated in this time of crisis.
