Double Paralympian gold medallist and four-time world record holder, Charl du Toit has accepted the challenge from Elana Meyer to run the Cape Town Marathon 10k. As well as racing for some healthy competition, Charl is also raising much-needed funds for Living Legends NPO in Stellenbosch.

Charl is certainly well accustomed to crossing the 100m line at lightning speed, but a new challenge awaits him. Charl's next big goal is to run his first sub-50 400m and by doing a sub-50 10k, it will give him a taste of what it's like to beat the big 5-0! This is made especially more challenging given that Charl was born with Cerebral Palsy - a disability that severely affects mobility and muscle coordination.

'Long distance is definitely not my forte, but when I was given the opportunity to live my passion through sport and make a difference in our vulnerable communities around South Africa - I was 100% up for the challenge.'

Charl's love for sport doesn't end on the track, he truly believes that sport is a vehicle for change and that every child deserves the right and the opportunity to be in control of their own destiny. Therefore, Charl is raising funds to ensure that children across the Western and Eastern Cape can benefit from Living Legends sports and life skills programmes, that are currently operating in 16 schools with a reach of over 12,000 children weekly!

Since the beginning of 2017, Charl has been the Programme Manager for Living Legends NPO based in Stellenbosch. He is living his dream vicariously through sport and strongly believes in investing in underprivileged communities and creating more opportunities for children living in adverse conditions.

Charl has set himself a target of raising R30,000 that will directly go towards funding the running of Living Legends programmes within our 16 partner schools!

Wishing you all the best, Charl!
