Bursary programme

Our bursary program serves to identify talented learners with leadership potential that may otherwise be held back by the burdens of poverty. These children have overcome immense hardship with little more than their own determination and positive attitudes. They are academically gifted and show great promise but need a little help to fulfil their true potential.

To date, 36 learners have benefitted from the bursary program, with ten active junior learners and five tertiary learners currently receiving our support. We are exceedingly proud of every one of these beneficiaries, who all continue to excel academically and take on top leadership roles. Some of our alumni are currently pursuing degrees across the country, whilst others have already gone on to develop their own businesses and mechanisms for giving back. We believe that physically seeing someone from their local community rise above difficult circumstances to gain a successful education and career has a significantly greater impact than any other incentives we can offer.

The bursary programme is partnered with Southern Cross Schools, an exceptional, local boarding school with a strong commitment to the environment and community upliftment. Together, we aim to develop well-rounded, well-educated young adults with a strong sense of community and a desire to give back to society. For South Africa to continue to develop and grow economically, we need to create more leaders from a variety of cultural, religious and racial backgrounds, empowering them to create a brighter future for themselves, and ultimately, their country. Close cultural ties mean that whole families benefit when children do well, leading to the upliftment of the entire community, not just one child.

Your donation will go towards funding school costs including fees, uniform, stationery and supplies, extra tuition, transport and ongoing mentorship by the Eco Children team. An investment in Eco Children is an investment in education, which ultimately empowers our youth to make better decisions and influence their communities positively to do the same. We are aiming to create agents of change and we invite you to join us in this endeavour.
