There is no worse crime than gender-based violence and human trafficking. The victims, especially of domestic abuse, come to us broken and their fight back to any sense of normality is long and a massive struggle. At our Beth Shan facility in Pretoria they find temporary shelter: women and child victims of domestic violence and cruelty, rape survivors, women who’ve been evicted from their homes or who live in fear in parks, and some who’ve escaped from a situation of human trafficking. Our Krugersdorp Family Mission Centre is making astonishing differences to people who are on the verge of despair. This centre offers a home to families who are really facing major difficulties – a room and three meals a day per person at an incredibly inexpensive rate. We take childhood education very seriously. Our crèches are such important places to the little ones who stay there each day. Our early childhood development programmes are being well received and we believe this will also help those who have been through them to, later in life, be able to cope far better with any type of setback that hits them.
