It is common for children in rural areas to be taught in a multi-grade classroom and so often the learner's academic abilities suffer as a result and lie well below the prescribed level. The recent an international study measuring reading literacy levels has scored South Africa the lowest out of 50 countries globally." The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study" released its results on Tuesday after assessing grade 4 pupils at South Africa’s schools. The report measured literacy levels between 2011 and 2016 and has found 78% of the pupils who took part are illiterate. The Anna Foundation after-schools are hugely beneficial, not only in providing additional literacy and numeracy support, having resource material available for school tasks, encouraging a healthy lifestyle through sports but also by teaching children valuable life skills which will equip them for their future.
All monies raised through the GivenGain platform will go directly back to equipping our after school projects with the resources needed to successfully run our 3 R's "Reading, Running, Right-ing" programme. This includes the purchase of educational resources and games, sports equipment, resources for life skills lessons, training of the farm ladies who run our programmes, infrastructure and the children's wellbeing.
For South Africans: As the Anna Foundation is a registered non profit organisation, all donations made by are tax deductible and we will issue each donor with a Section 18A donation receipt on request - please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
