947 Ride Joburg Campaign for Siyathuthuka Crèche, KwaZulu-Natal
In the month of November 2022 we had 13 cyclist (including 947 Radio DJ, Msizi James) participating in the 947 Ride Joburg race to raise funds for Siyathuthuka Crèche at Mduku, KwaZulu-Natal. Siyathuthuka translated to English means “We are developing”. Siyathuthuka Creche was founded in 2012 by Sindy Zulu a retired teacher, who recognized the desperate need for children in the area to have access to pre-schooling in order to better prepare them for school.
This crèche has an enrollment of 41 young children enrolled but very little formal infrastructure. Our goal is that through the 947 Ride Joburg, we can significantly improve the environment for these little ones. The Creche does not meet the Department of Social Development standards, therefore they do not qualify to receive any funding for running costs and salaries. Only 10 parents can afford to pay fees consistently, the children who do not pay fees do not get turned away.
We are continuing this fundraising campaign into the festive season! Every cent raised will contribute to the development of this crèche site, which needs ablutions, a kitchen, classrooms, a play area and veggie garden.
