The Yiza Ekhaya Soup Kitchen feeds, cares for and offers a safe place
for 250 children in the local community. Recently, it has become a safe
place for some children to sleep too.
Yiza Ekhaya was started to help feed neighbourhood children. Founder,
Mickey Winefred Linda, started it from her own home with her own
pension money. She’s opened her heart and her home providing a place of
safety and care for children who wouldn’t normally have had that.
This is a community in Cape Town which has problems with poverty.
According to the most recent census 74% households have a monthly income
of R3200 or less. Yiza Ekhaya offers not only a daily wholesome meal
but love, humour and the possibility of something else to the children.
It gives them another example to follow, a positive role to repeat.
