VISION and MISSION
The Warehouse works in the City of Cape Town South Africa and we have a vision for just and transformed communities where the vulnerable are cared for because the local church is a transformative presence. We seek to achieve this vision by inspiring, equipping and connecting churches to become a transformed and transformative presence in their communities thereby effectively addressing poverty, injustice and division.
OUTCOMES
• Church leaders, both lay and ordained, are being supported, cared for and mentored as they lead their churches in responding to poverty, injustice and division.
• Church leaders and church members are being inspired to address poverty, injustice and division through relationships, opportunities, events and resources.
• In their response to poverty, injustice and division churches are changing their lifestyles and have been equipped with the theology, sound development theory and tools to carry out justice and mercy work.
• The church in Cape Town is being connected and networked across racial, economic and denominational barriers and with government and civil society initiatives in broader society.
• The Parish of St Johns is responding to poverty, injustice and division in a manner that exemplifies all that we teach and desire for a local church.
• The church is actively interceding for a just society and for people and initiatives that are working for this society.
• Initiatives that address specific systemic issues facing the church have been researched, designed, modeled and implemented in such a way that the church is more effectively addressing issues around poverty, injustice and division.
STRATEGY
We believe that long term engagement and discipleship of local church communities is far more effective in catalysing this kind of transformation than are program based interventions that don't ultimately equip the local church. In order to achieve this we focus on four strategic areas of activity.
Engaging Church Leaders in relationship and creating opportunities for theological reflection, development training, support and mentorship as they seek to lead their churches to participate in community transformation.
Facilitating Transformational Encounters such as workshops, forums, experiential learning events, time giving opportunities and conferences. These events are designed to engage participant's hearts, hands and minds and in so doing inspire and equip them in transformational development theory and practice as well as connect them across the various divides in our city and churches.
Adopt, adapt or create Transformational Resources such as bible studies, workshop material, films etc that can be used to inspire and equip individuals and congregations to participate effectively in community transformation.
Research, development and incubation of specific initiatives that contribute to the effectiveness of church responses to poverty, injustice and division.
