The Underdog Project is a mutually beneficial programme, working with two vulnerable groups, at-risk youth and shelter dogs with the main objective being to improve the lives of both.
Through animal assisted interventions and positive reinforcement training techniques the youth overcome social and emotional issues associated with early trauma and poverty and learn a wide range of invaluable life skills. At the same time the dogs learn some basic skills, get relief from kennel stress, receive outdoor exercise, stimulation and love, all of which improve their time at the shelter and increase their chances of adoption.
Themes of kindness, compassion and promoting non-violence are at the core of what we do and stand for.
