LETCEE is an Early Childhood Development (ECD) non-profit organization that operates from Greytown, in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. The name (Little Elephant Training Centre for Early Education) is derived from the Zulu name for Greytown: eNdlovana – the place of the little elephant.

Our work is focused in the impoverished, rural communities of the Umzinyathi district, where unemployment figures are high and the impact of HIV/Aids and TB is a reality in almost every home. That being said we work in partnership with many organizations and communities across KwaZulu-Natal in an attempt to strengthen communities response to young children.

MISSION

LETCEE’s mission is to build the confidence and capacity of adults so that they will create nurturing environments for the children in their communities.

We achieve this by:

• Offering accredited ECD training at NQF level 4.
• Supporting a cohort of volunteers who facilitate learning through play in the homes of children not able to attend an ECD site.
• Providing resources for play and learning.
• Encouraging and supporting the registration and improvement of early learning facilities.

LETCEE works closely with traditional leadership and existing structures in various communities. We are committed to developing these communities through the empowerment of individual members. Our training is structured so that trainees gain self-confidence and self-esteem so that they, in turn, will grow the children to their full potential.
