The GSDT provides support for education and cultural projects in the greater Stellenbosch. It aims to bridge cultural and material divides in Stellenbosch.
In 2001, a few friends across Stellenbosch and Khayamandi converted the ruins of a fire damaged beer hall into a centre for community projects. As the initial projects gained traction and developed, the GSDT evolved as an organisation that managed a number of projects to an incubator for both and new and established NGO’s. It is a reflection of success that all the projects that were developed within the GSDT are now independent organisations, each with its own focus and expertise.
The underlying approach behind activities of the GSDT is human-rights based. The legal structure of the Trust is designed to comply with best practice corporate governance and also to encourage democratic participation.
